Bursitis usually results from a repetitive movement or due to prolonged and excessive pressure. Resting on your elbows for long periods or bending your elbows frequently and repetitively (for example using a vacuum cleaner for hours at a time) can develop elbow bursitis (also called olecranon bursitis). Repetitive use or frequent pressure on other parts of the body can also irritate a bursa and cause inflammation.
Traumatic injury (following a car accident or heavy fall) is another cause of bursitis development. Inflammation of the bursa can cause pain in normal movements and activities.
